For the academic paper, you will select a topic regarding a nursing issue or trend to discuss in terms of its actual or potential impact on nursing practice, nursing education, and/or nursing research. The focus of the topic must relate to the profession rather than a standalone health topic or nursing role. Examples of appropriate topics include:

  1. Once you have everything assembled into your document (title page, paper, references, and the Academic Integrity Checklist, then you will submit your paper to the plagiarism checker called Turnitin. Use the Turnitin link on the left menu and select “Academic Paper.”


  1. Review the Originality Report and make revisions to your paper (if necessary) so that there are no areas that match source material (e.g. text that has been copied). To receive a passing score on this assignment you must have an acceptable Turnitin report. Feel free to make several revisions, if needed, to achieve an acceptable report.   1. Length: It is important to keep your paper to 4-6 pages of text. This does NOT include the cover and the reference pages. Papers that are too long or too short will be graded lower than those that stay within the established range.
  2. Organization of material: The content should be organized in logical progression, with a strong introductory paragraph and purpose (thesis) statement and how that purpose is to be achieved. The introduction should state the focus of the paper, why the topic is important, and key points to be discussed in the paper. A conclusion is to be identified in the last paragraph, summarizing the major points made in the introduction and body of the paper. Each paragraph should have an introductory statement (topic sentence) followed by explanations and, if appropriate, examples. Sentences should be complete and to the point.
