COVID-19 pandemic and the global economy

In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the things that marked my day,

such as commuting to work, having drinks with friends, spending time with

my family, going to the movies with my fiancée all vanished, and time seemed to

take a flat, seamless quality. During that time, the future seemed so shapeless, I did

not know whether the virus would continue to rage for weeks, months, or lord help

us, on and off for years.

The pandemic showed me how intricately we are all connected, it revealed

to me the many ways that our lives intersect almost without our noticing. Nothing

is normal anymore, I was stuck in my house, not working, staying up until early in

the morning and sleeping until sometimes eleven am.

After about a month or two of doing nothing with my life, I decided to make

some changes. I was working a job that I knew was not something I want to do for

the rest of my working life. So, I decided to use the time I had to make a change in

my career. In doing so, I had to take courses to meet the requirement for my

new career, so here I am taking courses at Essex County College.

Also, I was fortunate to have found a job as a trainee in my new career field,

working with a company that have been keeping me remarkably busy, working

from home and taking courses online.

The impact of COVID-19 in my daily life has been with how I work and

socialize. This means minimizing contact with people, not travelling for

vacation, skipping social gatherings, can not go to social bars, sporting events, not

spending time with my family, friends, and working from home.

Fortunately, I have not had to change much expect for social distancing and not

seeing my friends and family as much as I would like to. I still have a job and have been

able to pay my rent and do the things I want to even in these times.
