CLEARLY AND IN YOUR OWN WORDS (do NOT use quoted material or wording from other sources or the text) explain a psychological term from Chapters 5, 6, 7, or 9 in the TEXTBOO Then, use a real-world example to illustrate this term.
Note: The language of this assignment should be in a “discussion” format – use regular, non-academic language. Avoid jargon and complex language.
Step 1: Select a term from Chapters 5, 6, 7 or 9 of your textbook. Provide a definition of the term, in your own words (i.e., no quotes!), that is simple enough that a non-psychology major (e.g., a fellow student who is not in the class) could understand it.
You must include a page number from the textbook immediately after the term you have chosen to define.
For example: “The term I have selected to define is retrograde amnesia (pg. 228)…”
Please note that this is not related to APA format or citations. This is only intended as a guide for graders.
Step 2. Provide a real-world example that reflects a real-world situation where this term is reflected in behaviour/mental processes. This example can be from your own life, OR, if you are uncomfortable sharing such, the life/experiences of a public person. Be thoughtful not to describe situations that are overly personal/confidential. This is not meant to be invasive!
Your example should demonstrate your understanding of the term as it is used in the context of psychology/this course.
Step 3. Provide a reference for the textbook (i.e., a reference for the whole textbook) that you would include in a References section of a paper. Please see the APA Manual for detailed instructions.
Step 4. Proof read your assignment. Clarity, in terms of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and appropriate language will be a significant proportion of your grade. You must demonstrate that you can communicate this term and example in an effective manner.
Step 5. Self-assess your response on the 7-point scale in the Discussion Assignment Grading Guide. This assessment is to help you check your word. You do not need to include the self-assessment in your submission.

6.5 Forms of Long-Term Memory: More Than One Kind
TEXT BOOK EXPLANATION OF THE TERM
The TERM I HAVE CHOSEN IS:
Episodic memoryis the collection of past personal experiences that occurred at a particular time and place.
Episodic memory is special because it is the only form of memory that allows us to engage in mental time travel, projecting ourselves into the past and revisiting events that have happened to us. This ability allows us to connect our pasts and our presents and construct a cohesive story of our lives. People who have amnesia can usually travel back in time and revisit episodes that occurred before they became amnesic, but they are unable to revisit episodes that happened later. For example, Greg couldn’t travel back to any time after 1969, because that’s when he stopped being able to create new episodic memories. But can people with amnesia create new semantic memories?
