Essay 3 – Classical Argument

  • Personal Thesis Statement

Children’s and Dreamers who are they?

The phrase we are a “nation of immigrants” has been heard a lot especially during presidential campaign the matter is very close to my heart, being an immigrant myself I moved to America 29 years ago by the way I was not after the American dream, I always thought I would go to Africa or any other country but God has other plans.

I choose this as my subject because I believe a lot of people has the wrong information about the matter and a lot of people are suffering because of the laws that are in place right now so I decided to give some light through articles and studies that’s available out there and I hope I can offer some bipartisan opinion not just on what is convenient and comfortable for me.

I chose this topic months ago since than so much has happened in our country that the news on kids separate from their parents, living in deplorable condition and even reports of many been abused by ICE agents are not news anymore.

What about DACA the Executive Order signed by President Baraca Obama on August 15 2012?

As a legal citizen of United States of America, I understand the need to protect the country, but I would like to argue that this country was populated by many immigrants that contribute so much for what America is today. With that been said there is no evidence that the majority of the crimes that happens in the United States are committed by immigrants, the same goes for the jobs that are performed mainly by the immigrants there is no evidence that those same immigrates are taking way jobs from Americans.

II-Families at the Southwest Border, who are they?

The Southwest border consists of the following U.S.A States; California, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. The Southwest Border is the path used from over 50% of immigrants living in the United States to enter the country, many of these families are running from extremally poverty and violence from their country of origin.  In the last 6 months estimated that over 100,000 people cross the Southwest border.

Border patrol on families crossings the border is not something new, other governess tried to enforce the border security with little results, President Trump administration with the “zero tolerance” policy is responsible for over 2,300 children been separated from their families, the intention of this policy is use the cruelty of separation from parents from their children be used as an example for other immigrants with the intention of crossing the border.

But the reality is this has been happening long before Trump administration enforce the policy.

As a result, many children’s and adults has been suffering tremendously because of it, for instance a man in jail that was separated from his wife and kids committed suicide in a jail in Texas.

Over 900 adults have been separated from their families, and yet worse more than 400 has been deported to their country without the kids, the question is where are these kids?

  1. Children’s Welfare: when a child is taken from the parents by the Department of Homeland Security(DHS) the laws said that the child is required to be transfer to the custody of the Department of Health Human Services (DHHS) in 72 hours, but with the overwhelming number of children’s at the border been taking from the parents, as a result children’s has been left at the border stations in terrible conditions, they were kept in cages, some would called the cages “ice box” because of the cold temperatures, some infants are been care for from their siblings young as 5 years old.

Another astonish fact are many accusations reports of sexual molestation.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) this can cause harm beyond

repair psychological and physically, some of the effects are:

Intense fear, panic, grief, depressions, rage and feeling of abandonment.

  1. Crime Against Humanity is defined as “act, typically part of a systematic campaign, that causes suffering or death”.

This is my personal opinion that separating the children from their parents should be consider a crime against humanity as this has been caused not only pain but in many cases death, again this is my personal opinion.

  1. The Results of this Actions:

The end result of the Zero tolerance policy was not what was expected, families continue to cross the Southern Border, after a huge negative response to this policy the Trump administration change the policy a little by detain the families for an indefinite time. The reality is both policies and previous administrations as well show little results on preventing families from migrating to the United States of America.

And to add to the effects of the separation cited above studies shows that even after the separation is over the effects remains.

III- DREAMERS who are they?

The “Dreamers” are the children of immigrants enter the United States legally or illegally, these children are beneficiaries of the Executive Order signed by President Baraca Obama on June 15 of 2012. Estimated that 1.9 million young and young adults benefited from the program.

These young adults have been through the U.S. public school system but many had been prevented to continuing their studies due to lack of proper documentation, but thanks to the DACA program these kids can now “dream” with a better future, that will be possible by acquiring higher education and the simple fact that now some of these young adults can drive a car without the fear of been stop by a cop.

  1. What is DACA? DACA is an Executive order signed by President Baraca Obama on June 15, 2012. DACA stands for : Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals, the purpose of DACA is to protect eligible immigrant youth who enter the United States of America when they were children’s, DACA will give each beneficiary: work permit, protection from being deported, after two years the person would need to renew the permit.

  1. Can DACA be saved?

Since its announcement by then President Baraca Obama DACA has been challenged in many levels, The Trump administration challenged the program many times and lost every time. President Trump announce on 07/10/2020 that his administration is working on a plan for immigration that will included protection for DACA, this came right after the Supreme Court announce on 06/18/2020 that President Trump rule on canceling DACA in 2017 was unlawful, this was without a doubt a great Victory, but the future is certain unclear for the DACA recipients, due to the fact that the Executive order originally signed by President Baraca Obama can be challenged at any time from the Trump administration.

  1. What the Future Holds for the “Dreamers”

The future is for sure uncertain, for now its secure, but that can be challenged at any time. In the meantime the so called “dreamers” are getting high education, acquiring skills in trade schools and getting better jobs with the work permit, hopefully this administration and the congress can reach in to an agreement and work on path for citizenship for these young that has already contributing so much for the economy of this nation.

IV- Conclusions

I can’t conclude this case without mention the enormous contribution of the Immigrants for this country, for instance the same young people that were benefit from DACA are now medical professionals during this horrible pandemic, and many but many has been enlist the United States Marines and are fight for our country all over the world.

As I mentioned before I understand the need to have laws in place to maintain the order in our country.

I just don’t understand the fact that the people that are choose by the people to look for the greater good of America can’t seem to agree on a law that could free millions of people to live their lives with dignity and freedom, which are pillars of the founding founders of this country.

Some Argues that these some immigrants are taking way Americans jobs, that’s not truth at all, the reality is Americans does not want to do the jobs that the immigrants are doing for instance I’m a manager of a big cleaning company, and in many occasion I place an add on many jobs opportunities web sites is rarely the times that I was able to hire Americans, they don’t show up for jobs as a cleaners, or any other jobs that are offered that requires manual labors.

Another argument is that the majority of crimes happened in this country are committed by immigrants there is no truth to that either.

The reality is political candidates use immigration as a bargain cheap, the only reason President Baraca Obama was reelected was because of the Latinos votes.

We keep hearing that our Immigration system is broken, and indeed it is.

I’m not naïve I understand The United States cannot simple open its borders for the whole world if we do we won’t be the USA, but let’s talk, lets fix, lets finds a compromise and then only than close the borders with respect for the human beings trying to cross this side.

Essay 2 / proposal

Make every first timer a Disciple of Christ.

I have been a member of the guest service at Church by the Glades sample Road campus for over two years now I have the privilege to serve with wonderful godly men and women under the leadership of our campus Pastor Eric Cunningham. Our Team its First Impression, under our leadership are: Parkin team, VIP, Greater, Hospitality and Ushers.

The first thing I guess see when they arrive to church is the big purple tent aka VIP from the stage every Sunday the people in charge of the announcements they always express how happy we are to have each guest with us, they are encourage on a vibrant way to stop by the VIP tent where guest will receive a free gift as they leave their name email after that each guest will receive will receive a text message from an app called church text where they are inquiry on how was the experience at Church by the Glades for second timers the guest stop by the VIP were they will received a shirt everything is done with a lot of caring and I would say love towards the people as my time at the VIP and service coach for the 11:30 service I noticed that a lot of people has been visiting our campus but I noticed in this almost 3 years our retention rate our rate is less than 10% I believe as a church we are called to make disciples briefing out of what is making disciples  we Invite, and then we teach the way .

Going back to the retention rate I believe that we can do much more in order to retain a bigger number of people and why numbers should concern us?

Number one: as a Christ follower and disciple makers if people are coming Sunday after Sunday and it’s not committing themselves with the church and with Jesus we as a disciple makers have an obligation to pressure the issue, the more we do this more people will transition to mere execrators to disciples of Christ.
Proposing solutions
1-Maximize the ability of Best Next Step, VIP and  Prayer Partners (I did not mentioned PP before because they are not part of First Impression) to reach the first time guest and make if not all at the very least the majority of the guests feel at home.

2- Make Next Best Step available after each service.

3-Payer Partners- Increase their visibility and actions of each prayer partner in our campus

4-Follow ups – Put together a system of follow ups.
Action plans

  • Each volunteer understand the urgency for the kingdom of God to grow by doing that we will stimulate on believer and volunteer the desire to see someone go from visitor every Sunday to a believer that’s highly involved into many opportunities at campus.
We will achieve that by simulate the volunteers trough training and use the Phillip model “come and see” I believe the called for the church it’s more than preach salvation and freedom from hell. it’s to show that the big plan is for people to get saved from eternal condemnation but to have a relationship with Jesus will make a huge difference on each person’s lives and we  will accomplish that by welcoming visitors, after that bring them to the Best Next Step class after that encourage each one participate in one of the life group where they will be minister and we will learn more about God

Process:

Training:
We will train key persons for each Sunday at VIP greeting and as a prayer partner to be on the lookout for newcomers approach them and geared them up for the Best Next Step that’s currently offer at our Campus once a month, speaking of Best Next sSep we will propose that the class should be offered after each service on that day once a month, basically  doing so we will reach more people that after the first service are not coming back for the class.

Follow up
After the Best Next Step we should be very intentional in follow up each guest by phone calls, emails and every possible try to encourage each person to get involved in the body of Christ.

Prayer Partners

would have a more active role in all of this you know all of the proposed ideas phrases
Prayer partner, right now the only thing the prayer partners does at our campus is at the at the end of every service they go up front and they wait for any person that needs a prayer request

I believe we should have a more blend of gender, age and even other language speaking partners and each one should be trained to encourage a person to take the salvation step baptism and pray for any prayer requests, we can achieve that by training and recruit more volunteers to be a prayer partner at our campus

Challenges
To you achieve all of this we will encounter some challenges along the way, for instance:

We will need more trained volunteers willing to give more of their time, but as the numbers of guests becomes disciples, we will have more volunteers.

Budget current we have a $400.00 monthly budget for the Best Next step we will have to stretch in between 2 services, but its doable.

.
Final Considerations
The stakes are too high to play it safe
We hear that phrase very often by Pastor David and I truly believe this is right we are talking about souls here, people that come to us every weekend and those same people they need to know that there’s much more in following Jesus I know a lot of people they come to church more as an obligation than anything else but as we work diligent on inspiring those souls that we know it’s still not committed to the local church we should strive to make every visitors an active member of the body of Christ by doing that we will have stronger church and stronger mature Christ followers and disciple makers.

One of the books that I chose is: Immigration by Dennis Wepmant, his book has some history facts as well some real testimonies of people who experienced and those who reacted to it.

The author argues “The population of America has been enriched—some would say polluted—by additions from almost every other country in the world.” Wepman, D. (2008). Immigration. New York, NY: Facts on File, Inc.

Anyone that has the opportunity to visit New York City can easily attest to that to that statement.
From the first immigrants that came to America, the Natives American to the one the cross the border this morning has something in common, they are fleeing from a political and religious hostile situation and are after a better way of life.
President Franklin Roosevelt  once say something very interesting

“Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionaries.”

It’s a complex matter, and from both sides we have very passion arguments, but its time to look at this matter with the same heart of the founders of this country with great zeal for America but with great passion for the people in needed.

We are sometimes so quickly in judge that United Estates of America is denying opportunity for people to stay here, which can be partially true, but there is a lot of opportunities under the law to be in this country legal. One of them is the Asylees and Other Special Group.

This is available for certain protected group of aliens in the US.

Most common are the asylees and refugees. Under the 1980 Refugee Act, a refugee is “any person who is outside of any country of such person’s nationality…who is unable or unwilling to return to.

Those who qualify are eligible for employment authorization and have paths to permanent residency.

Annotation:

One of the latest about immigration is a proclamation that was issued by President Donald Trump blocking the admission of individuals applying for immigrant visas who cannot demonstrate their ability to acquire health insurance within 30 days of their entrance into the United States.

I’m not sure how I feel about this, I can see the idea behind the proclamation as the health care system is in a great crisis in America, but I don’t believe the services that are offer, or money that are expend on the health of immigrants are the main cause of that crisis.

Another news is a report that United states Commission on civil rights indicated that policies put in actions by Trump administration appear to be violating the civil human rights, the report was done by a bipartisan commission of the US government.

Annotation:

One of the scenes that had a great impact in our lives especially as Christian was the image of children being separated from theirs parents, this is not news and to be fair has being happening way before this administration,  since 2014 has being an increase of families emigrated from Central America , what makes a huge difference is that children’s ha been  practically taken from parents arms with the “zero tolerance” enforced from Trump administration.

Children’s that are forcibly separated from their family experience a great deal of distress and trauma.

This practice from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) goes against the Mission of the Administration of Children’s and Families which is to provide “compassionate and effective delivery of human services”

I feel like there is a huge internal conflict, one side in what this great country was build freedom and justice, on the other hand we are treating those children’s so much lack of compassion.

The author of the article argues that a lot has been done by the Office of refugee Resettlement (ORR), Children’s who are immigrants’ hand have been separate from their parents are transferred to the ORR and later put on the transitional foster system.

None of this is ideal, I don’t condone who thinks that these parents had no business put their families at risk by migrated to US, but on the other hand if you had no food, no security, nothing and had a chance to offer all of this would you risk it ?

Annotation:

One of the most suscefull achievement of President Obama administration was DACA,

The author of article argues that despite of many lawyers, politician and immigrants’ rights activists who believe DACA was and still is a successful policy, after all of this tangible she argues that the Executive order failed in many levels.

I totally disagree with that in so many levels. To me what really failed was politician unable to reach an agreement due to well lack of commitment to their own words.

If the problems as the author argues was Obama Administration inability to move in to the first two years of his administration when he had the control of the house.

One thing I agreed that the “Dreamers” are innocent victims of the immigration system.

DACA has not been have an easy road, it has been challenged by many states as being unconstitutional exercise of the President executive authority.
