This research paper, due in Week 16, requires you to analyze the biocultural components of a media of your choice (suggestions provided below). Humans are a biocultural species, meaning our biology affects our culture, and our culture affects our biology. These impacts can be immediate and/or evolutionary in nature. For example, as the American diet became more processed with added sugars (the cultural component), the rate of Type II diabetes increased over time (the biological component). Research papers should be written in your own words (use quotes sparingly, if at all) that use credible and/or academic sources. They should be written in a professional academic tone that is contextualized within course concepts. Assume the reader knows nothing about the subject, walk them through your thought process, and state your conclusions clearly and succinctly. Use and define key terms from the course. Goal Explore biocultural aspects of humanity through an analysis of your chosen movie, series episode(s), book, or graphic novel. Introduction (5 points): Introduce your paper and give a brief overview of the contents. Summary of the story (20 points): Who are the main characters, what is the setting/context, is there an important backstory, and are there any key cultural or technological parameters? What significant events occur in the story? This section should be limited to half or less of your paper. Biocultural components explored in the story (30 points): Put on your “anthropology hat” and discuss the media from the point of view of an anthropologist.
